Halime Sultan Jewelry
Halime Sultan was a valide sultan who lived in the 16th century and was one of the most powerful women in the Ottoman Empire. She was the haseki sultan of Mehmed III and the mother of Mustafa I.
Halime Sultan was from a princely family in Abkhazia. She met Mehmed III at the palace in 1590, when he was the governor of the Saruhan sancakbeyi. They fell in love and married.
Halime Sultan was Mehmed III's favorite wife. They had six children together: Mustafa I, Şehzade Mahmud, Dilruba Sultan, Hatice Sultan, and Fatma Sultan.
After Mustafa I's birth, Halime Sultan worked hard to ensure that her son would ascend to the throne. Her son became the sultan in 1617 after Mehmed III's death. However, Mustafa I's mental health was weak and he was soon deposed.
Halime Sultan continued to support her son even after his deposition. In 1622, Mustafa I was restored to the throne and Halime Sultan acted as a de facto co-ruler. However, Mustafa I's second reign was also short-lived. He was deposed and executed again in 1623.
Halime Sultan remained an important figure in the Ottoman court even after her son's death. She supported her son's successor, Osman II, who also supported his mother. However, after Osman II was assassinated in 1624, Halime Sultan's political influence began to wane.
Halime Sultan died in 1642 and was buried in the Hagia Sophia Mosque.
Halime Sultan was one of the most important female figures in Ottoman history. As a strong mother and politician, she played a significant role in her son's ascension to the throne and in contributing to the stability of the Ottoman Empire.
